Number of AALCO Arbitration Centres
The Lagos Centre is one of four such arbitral Centres established so far under the auspices
of the AALCO.
Each Centre is located in a different region of the African and Asian continents;
The decision to establish these centres was adopted at the 19th annual session of AALCO held in Doha (Qatar) in January, 1978.
This was part of the AALCO's integrated dispute settlement scheme which is the culmination of a series of efforts on the part of developing countries (ever since the Havana Conference held between 1947 - 1948) at international and regional levels, within and outside the United Nations, to provide a fair and adequate system for settlement of disputes arising out of international commercial transactions including foreign investments
The AALCO Centres are established with cooperation and assistance of each host country in accordance with the terms contained in the various Headquarters' Agreements executed between each of the host government and the AALCO.
Each AALCO Regional Arbitration Centre enjoys the cooperation of its host. |
